A "homeless point in time count" (often abbreviated as "PIT count") is an annual survey conducted by local agencies to estimate the number of people experiencing homelessness in a community on a single night, usually in January, as mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); it includes both sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals.
