Who We Are

Valerie's House was created in 2015 by Angela Melvin Churchill. Angela's mother was killed in a car crash in 1987 in Fort Myers and at the time there was no where for Angela's family to go to grieve. Angela made it her project to bring grief services to Southwest Florida, all at no-cost to the families who attend. What started in a small house in Fort Myers has grown to Collier, Charlotte, Escambia and Sarasota counties. Along with offering groups through MOU's with the local school districts. The mission of Valerie’s House is to help children and families work through the loss of a loved one together and go on to live fulfilling lives. Our vision is that No Child Will Grieve Alone.

What We Do

Valerie's House offers peer grief support services to children and their families who have lost a parent or sibling. Services are offer in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. Groups are held in the evening following a free meal. Children are split into age appropriate groups where they work through an activity that gets them thinking about their grief. Caregivers meet at the same in their own groups where they can make connections and help each other through raising grieving children. The goal is that families build positive coping skills and make connections with others going through something similar.
